Offshore credit cards

January 2nd, 2009

Offshore credit cardsThe services that are provided by the offshore credit cards are not for everybody. Usually they are only given to a limited number of customers. This includes those who own bank accounts outside the United States. They are the road warriors who have different accounts in different places of the nature of their work or business.

Some people need offshore credit because of tax purposes or because of their transactions and businesses around the globe. Fortunately for these business travelers, some countries are considered as tax havens especially for those who want to protect some of the investments against taxes that are required to be paid by those who are living in United States.

This type of credit card is actually legal. However, not many residents in the United States have enough reason to get one. Usually those who own offshore credit cards are suspected by many that they are trying to guard their income from the taxes that they must pay. There are even some cases that the federal agencies became suspicious of some of the people who were using offshore credit cards. They thought that these people were just trying to avoid the federal taxes that they have on their income.

As of today, there are already numerous countries having banks which offer its people the benefits of the offshore credit cards. Some of which includes the Cayman Islands, Antigua, and Bahamas. These countries are not just popular as tourist destinations alone. They are also known for their financial institutions and their banks as well.

Offshore Credit Cards are Creating Suspicion on the Part of the Law Enforcers

Although not all, law enforcers are usually doubtful to those who own an offshore credit card. This is because they have a big chance to hide their real income so that they may be able to evade the taxes that they must pay.

Offshore credit cards are offered by the legit companies to the people who may use it for legal purposes. The law enforcing agencies have already taken measures in order to investigate the functionality of such credit cards. The investigation is not done in United States alone but also to the other countries offering offshore credit card services.

Later on, the law enforcers also investigated the individuals who were using these cards as well. However, it became very difficult and almost impossible to complete because of the distances between the countries offering offshore credit cards. As of today, this type of card is still a problem among law enforcers that are related to banking. There are already numerous rules that they are hoping to continue so that the offshore credit cards will be regulated soon.

You bet these cards will be regulated soon. I have worked in the credit card industry. Nothing gets unregulated for too long.
